Mental Health Helplines

If you need someone to speak to, click here for a number of support services, all dedicated to support you when you are struggling.

Before calling a helpline

Reaching out can feel like a big step, so it can help to know what to expect. You might find it useful to think about:

  • Opening times – When is the service available, and does it fit with when you’d like to call?

  • Cost – Is the call free, or will it be charged?

  • Confidentiality – What you share is usually private, but some services may need to act if they’re concerned about your immediate safety. You can always ask them to explain this clearly.

  • If the line is busy – You may need to try more than once, call back later, or consider another helpline.

You can often find this information on the organisation’s website, or you can ask the person you speak to at the start of the call.

If you need urgent support, you are not alone

Emergency GP appointments

If you do not feel at risk to yourself, to others or from others, contact your GP at your earliest opportunity and arrange an urgent appointment for your mental health.
